As if we weren’t already extremely excited to see Emma Watson take on the role of Belle in Beauty and the Beast, the new things we’re hearing about the live-action movie are making us so want to see the film so badly!
The 26-year-old actress has revealed that she will be putting a feminist twist on the classic Disney role and we think she is the perfect choice to do so, seeing as she’s an outspoken activist for feminism in real life.
Emma recently opened up about how the role of Belle in the new film will differ from the animated version.

“In the animated movie, it’s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle,” Emma told Entertainment Weekly. “I was like, ‘Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also, what is she doing with her time?’ So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor.”
Emma also decided not to wear a corset under her dress, costume designer Jacqueline Durran said.
“In Emma’s reinterpretation, Belle is an active princess. She did not want a dress that was corseted or that would impede her in any way,” she said.
