Shawn Mendes wants to change the world… one note at a time.
That’s why the 18-year-old “Mercy” singer is teamed up with Paper Mate InkJoy Gel Pens.
Keeping the tradition of his #NotesFromShawn campaign, Shawn is encouraging people to share their positive handwritten notes with him on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #SpreadJoy and tagging Paper Mate.
We asked Shawn — who’s prepping for his 2017 world tour called Illuminate — why this is so important to him and to dish on how his fans affect his life!
JJJ: Why is this campaign important to you?
This has been really important to me because it really shows the power of words and spreading positivity. When Papermate came to us wanting to get behind something like this, and really bring #NotesFromShawn to the next level with the #SpreadJoy campaign, I was just really excited to have someone who wanted to empower something so meaningful to me.
JJJ: What is the most meaningful lyric you’ve ever written?
It’s really hard to pinpoint a most meaningful lyric as they all have so much meaning, but in Australia just yesterday a fan had “All we can do is hold on” tattooed on her arm, that really meant a lot to me.
JJJ: What fan moment sticks out most in your mind from 2016?
Just standing in the middle of MSG on stage, looking around, and somewhat realizing like “wow they’re all here to sing along with me” was astonishing. It felt like I was floating a few feet off the ground. Just a surreal moment.
JJJ: What are you most looking forward to in the coming year and why?
The Illuminate World Tour is going to be incredible. We’re going to so many countries, still have so many more dates to announce, and I just cant wait to play arenas around the world and bring this new music everywhere I can.
