Zendaya is Not Here to Be 'Pretty'

Zendaya is Not Here to Be 'Pretty'

Zendaya has probably been attributed with a number of adjectives in her lifetime. We have used “stunning,” “flawless,” “authentic,” “striking,” and “inspiring” when writing about her (probably all in one article.)

Still, there is one word that the star of the upcoming Spider-Man has resolved to steer clear of, at least on the red carpet: “pretty.”

“Pretty is boring,” she told Allure of her styling goals.

We can’t say we disagree. “Pretty” is not only completely subjective, but it is also lacks ingenuity. “Pretty” is about as generic a word as they come, its only connotation a vague positive image of ball gowns or fairy wings, nothing concrete or real.

“On the red carpet, I’m this dainty, slow, elegant gazelle,” Zendaya explained. “When I step on one, I’m a different person like Sasha Fierce and Beyonce.”

On the carpet or off, Zendaya is certainly more than “pretty;” she’s extraordinary. And there is an adjective we think she would settle for.
