Lily Collins On Her Eating Disorder & New Movie 'To The Bone': 'It Never Fully Goes Away'

Just a few days after premiering her new movie, To The Bone, star Lily Collins is opening up more about why she took on the role which battled the same eating disorder disease she did when she was younger.

In To The Bone, Lily plays Ellen, a young woman is dealing with anorexia who meets an unconventional doctor who challenges her to face her condition and embrace life.

“It was terrifying as well. You’re facing something head on that you’ve come out of and now you’re willingly putting yourself back into,” she shared about going down a path she knows about well. She herself struggled with the disorder when she was younger.

Lily adds about getting specific help for the movie role, and the right way to lose and put back on weight.

“It was a new way of looking at the disease, but coming from someone 10 years on and looking back at it,” she shares. “I got to insert my own experiences, but at the same time, this was for Ellen; this was research for a character that I could relate to but who is very different from me. It was like therapy — I got to surround myself with very strong women and Marti, who went through it as well.”

“It [anorexia] never fully goes away,” Lily admits. “It’s a part of who you are.”
