How 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' Inspired the 'Flash/Supergirl' Musical Crossover

This week on Supergirl and The Flash, we get another crossover…and not just any kind of crossover, a musical one that reunites Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist and Darren Criss.

We always dreamed of getting a big Glee reunion on the two shows, but it was really Buffy The Vampire Slayer that inspired it all.

“You think of ‘Hush’ or ‘The Body’ or ‘Once More, With Feeling,’ and what’s so great about those episodes is, they didn’t stop the ongoing narrative of the season to step outside to do something fun,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg shared.

“Those episodes really spoke to what the characters were going through.”

He added about the dual episodes of their storylines, “We kind of set it up so that both Barry and Kara would be at romantic crossroads. When they go into the musical episode they’re both in the same place and they can go on this journey together to either get back the love that they think they’ve lost or not.”
