Bella Thorne Faces Backlash After Tweeting About Her Depression
Bella Thorne faced backlash this week when it appeared she diagnosed herself with depression and then talked about it on Twitter.
“Came to the conclusion that I struggle with depression,” the 19-year-old Famous in Love actress tweeted. “You aren’t alone.” She accompanied the post with a heart emoji.
Bella pulled the post soon after, likely due to backlash from fans who worried that she wasn’t taking it quite seriously enough. Some fans accused her of “throwing around” the word, and told her that without an official diagnosis, she shouldn’t say she has such a serious illness.
@bellathorne U can't jst come to a conclusion that u suffer frm depression,it's not just a random feeling like being sad or unhappy.

@bellathorne huge fan but unless you've been diagnosed don't go throwing that word around, depression is a serious matter.

Depression is a sensitive issue, so we definitely understand why Bella felt pressure to pull the tweet. Still, questioning the validity of Bella’s thoughts about her mental health isn’t fair, either.
