OlderDove Cameron Calls Out Gender Roles in Twitter Thread
Descendants 2 actress Dove Cameron overheard a businessman being mocked because of the drink he ordered, and it caused her to reflect on the role gender plays in our society.
“Just heard a group of business men say ‘didn’t you know Todd was a chick?” bc he likes fruity cocktails & not beer,” Dove tweeted. “Why are we so weird?”
It’s not just weird, it’s problematic. We live in a society that constantly dictates how we should act due to our gender, and that sets absurd standards we must adhere to.
“It’s ingrained into us so young,” Dove mused, noting how much of what gender is actually societal.
gender roles/expectancies/generalizations are so weird, right? like, 1/3 of them are bc of physical nature, and 2/3 are societal. how weird.

Seeing an encounter like that first-hand must have been a significant moment for Dove, and it definitely seems to have struck a chord. It’s amazing she spoke out about it.
