Selena Gomez on '13 Reasons Why': 'Backlash is Gonna Come No Matter What'

Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why is getting a lot of heat right now, for “glamorizing suicide”, according to some mental health organizations.

However, Selena Gomez is standing behind the series, where she serves as executive producer.

Talking with the Associated Press, Selena defended the show for it’s realness.

“We stayed very true to the book, and that’s initially what [author] Jay Asher created was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story and I think that’s what we wanted to do,” she shared.

Selena adds, “We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, (the backlash is) gonna come no matter what. It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.”

Yes Selena, slay the haters & the religious right because from what I understand those are the ones that have been flooding the mental health lines stating that this series will only do harm which in all actuality it has brought HUGE AWARENESS & insight to millions. The religious right wants to sweep these taboo subjects that go on in high schools like bulling & teen suicide under the rug just like mental illness, homosexuality, gun control, alcohol/drugs, rape, ect, I am so happy she fought so hard to make this series happen because its ground breaking and should be applauded.
