'13 Reasons Why' Almost Had a Totally New Cast For Season 2

We already know so many teasers about 13 Reasons Why season 2, from the continuation of Jessica’s heartbreaking storyline to the confirmation that Hannah will still be a central part of the show. But the second season almost went another direction entirely.

“When we originally pitched it,” showrunner Brian Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly in an interview, “there was another version, which was an anthology version where, in sort of True Detective mode, every year you start with a new 13 reasons.”

OMG! We can’t imagine what the show would be like without Katherine Langford, Dylan Minnette, Miles Heizer, and so many more actors who delivered astonishing and raw performances.

Still, Brian considered the other option as well, which was “continuing to follow these characters who really have been through tremendous trauma, all of them in some part coping with the trauma of Hannah’s death and the aftermath.”

This, of course, is the decision they ultimately made.

“It became very apparent to me, somewhere in the middle of the season, that I wasn’t going to be done with these characters after the first season, that I would want to know more and I would want to follow them,” Brian explained.

We definitely understand why.
