Camila Cabello Talks How Being Latina Influences Her Music & Politics

In a new interview, singer Camila Cabello opens up about being Latina, and the role that her heritage has had on her new music and her political activism.

“My heritage and my culture are such a big part of who I am,” she told Teen Vogue. “I’ve just been trying to incorporate it into my music – I’m actually in the process of finishing a song that is about my story and how my family came here.” She has talked in other interviews about writing an “immigrant love song,” and we can’t wait to hear it!

She also explained how she connects with her Latin fans, and feels a responsibility to stand up for their rights. “A lot of people didn’t even know that I was Latina before I started talking so openly about it…a lot of my fans are Latin so I definitely treat it like a special responsibility to them to speak up for them.”

Surprisingly, Camila had no plans to use her platform for politics — it just happened. “The Trump administration hit so close to home,” she explained, “I saw so much hatred when it came to talking about immigrants.”

It’s definitely admirable that she is speaking out about what she believes in and using her voice to defend others’ rights.
