Who she is: Cixi is the most badass female ruler ever. She started as an imperial concubine of the Xianfeng Emperor in her adolescence, and moved up those ranks after giving birth to a son, Zaichun, in 1856 — his only surviving son who would go on to succeed him on the throne.

When he did, when he was only four after his father’s death, Cixi became the Empress Dowager, even though she was still considered a concbuine.

Seriously, Cixi should be everyone’s spirit animal/person.

She looked over her son’s reign, and effectively controlled and changed the Chinese government for 47 years.
