Raven Symone Reveals Why Raven & Devon Are Divorced in 'Raven's Home'

Ever since we found out that Raven Symone was returning to Disney Channel in Raven’s Home, we’ve been so excited — especially when we learned that Jonathan McDaniel will also be back as Devon, her high school love.

However, we were kind of bummed out to learn that Raven and Devon would actually be divorced in the new series.

Speaking with Seventeen, Raven opened up about what led to the divorce between the characters.

“I was a part of that decision to have Devon as Raven’s ex-husband,” she shared. “Everyone was torn with the decision — who should it be? I’ve always found Raven’s relationship with Devon interesting. And like, how about a little bit of nostalgia?”

So, why did the couple part ways? Click inside to find out!

“They were high school sweethearts, but things change. People marry their high school sweethearts and then they grow up and things change.”

But it’s okay between both Raven and Devon, she adds: “Things are good because there’s still friendship there.”

During discussions about the couple, Raven really wanted to shed on light on how divorces aren’t always ugly ones. There are some that are amicable and the parents that choose not to be together because it’s better for their family.

“There are so many types of divorces portrayed on TV but we wanted to go the route of you can have a happy divorce,” she adds. “We’re friends! He’s a very involved dad, and we get along. I’m sure we’ve had our issues in the past but for the kids, our issues are in the past.”

Raven’s Home airs Fridays on Disney Channel.

as big as a decision that was, i think it would be cool to have devon as the father and managing kids with physic abilities. one big dynamic family. also have chelsea and whoever else come visit and tag along and help along..that would be nice to see. i know nowadays tv shows portray divorce as the new trend.. but when that’s so raven started out it was an all american family sitcom.. it would be nice to see that again without separating the lightheartedness of the show to make it “viewable”

Well all American families are a rarity around me.. my parents are together but most of my friends parents are divorced or remarried.. Its just unrealistic and fake to make every show a big Dynamic family when half of America is not

idk i don’t have one friend that has divorced parents. I know that alot of kids parents are but I myself have never encountered it.

It doesn’t make a show fake for portraying what most kids have nowadays and would like to see. the whole purpose of That’s so Raven was to show the lives of everyone in her life as she is coming in terms with her physic abilities. just because their are divorced parents it shouldn’t stop the company from portraying a happy all american family. there were all american sitcoms before our time.. so just because divorce rates have increased we should portray that truth? just cause that’s not your truth doesn’t mean it goes for everyone else.
