The 2017 VMA Awards Are Doing Away With Gender in All Categories

The 2017 MTV VMAs nominees were announced today (July 25), and not only is the group super diverse this year, but MTV is making a big change.

This year, instead of having Best Female Video and Best Male Video as categories, MTV has combined them to form Artist of the Year. This decision followed the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which also featured gender-neutral categories, and it is a huge step forward for inclusivity in awards shows.

Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and Lorde are all competing for Artist of the Year in one category, and we can’t wait to see who wins!

Make sure to watch the awards on Sunday, August 27 at 8 p.m. ET. And vote for your favorite artists here!
