Raven Symone Wishes She Grew Up in Today's More Body-Positive Era

Raven Symone has spoken out about how important it is to her that all body types are celebrated on Raven’s Home — and now she is opening up about how that was not at all the case in her (very public) childhood.

“I wish I was living now as a younger person,” the 31-year old actress said in an interview, “I probably wouldn’t have so many mental issues.”

Raven went on to detail how she was told she was “too big” to perform in concert when she was younger.

“I still did it!” she remembers to People Now. “I was on tour forever because it’s not about your size, it’s about what you have to say, if you can sing or dance, and performing. It’s not about your size.”

Fortunately, she thinks things are getting better in terms of body positivity.

“In this day and age you have all kinds, and it’s funny, it’s serious, it’s every color, it’s every head shape, it’s every hair,” she continued, “And there’s androgyny, and there’s LGBT coming in, and it feels good. We didn’t have it enough last time and I guess that’s what the past is for – to make sure the present is what it needs to be.”

We’re glad she made it through the tough times to be the body-positive role model she is today.

People still judge as of today and any day of era. Just because we are finally letting people be who they are/want to be, doesn’t mean it has gotten any easier or better. People still go through depression, mental illness, and trying to fit in what others can’t understand. and let’s not forget the people who come in to feel welcomed only to be slammed in the face for believing in a religion everyone is afraid by and yet again doesn’t understand. So sorry raven, but no matter what generation you want to live in there is going to be consequences along the way. No one has accepted the idea of someone being ‘curvy” can dance or sing because like always no on can understand how it could be possible.
