Bethany Mota Won't Be on Social Media As Much Anymore
Bethany Mota got her big break on the Internet — from YouTube, to Instagram, to Twitter.
But now, in an essay she penned for Cosmopolitan, she is stepping back from it all, to be a regular girl.
Bethany revealed that all the apps had taken over her life:
“I even started to feel guilty if I just went to the movies for fun, like, ‘What could I be doing on social media?’… If something was trending or I visited a popular vacation spot, I couldn’t fully enjoy it if I didn’t take a photo and post it online,” she writes.
“The truth is, I was never fully present. I wasn’t building bonds with people, and I wasn’t happy.”
Bethany will be stepping back from all her platforms, but she’s not saying goodbye for good.
“I’m not saying I’ll be going dark on social media anytime soon. Again, I love it, and I understand its importance for my career,” she says. “But every day, It’s important for my emotional well-being that I fit in at least five minutes where I close my eyes and allow myself to be at one with my thoughts”
Bethany adds, “I also do my best to minimize the time I have my phone out when I’m with friends or family, because it starts to consume me and then I stop using all my senses to fully experience what’s happening.”
