Shawn Mendes To Kick Off MTV's 'Unplugged' Reboot

Shawn Mendes is the first artist up on MTV’s Unplugged relaunch and JJJ is super excited about it.

If you don’t know, the popular franchise features music acts reinterpreting their songs – and usually a cover – acoustically. It first aired in 1989, before signing off in 1999.

The “Mercy” singer will be performing from Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, and his special will air on September 8th, according to Variety.

“It wasn’t so much about the commercial, showman side of it; It was really about the music,” Shawn shared about wanting to be involved in the relaunched special.

He adds, “People come to my shows not really knowing what to expect, and they leave experiencing a real rock-pop concert. We’re playing 100% of the time. To be able to film that and put it out to the people is exciting.”
