Alex & Sierra Have Broken Up -- Both As a Couple & As a Musical Duo

We have some devastating news today.

Alex & Sierra, the musical duo that won the U.S. X Factor in 2013, have broken up both as a band and as a couple.

“Though we didn’t tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year ago,” they wrote on their joint Twitter account today. “We’ve arrived at a point where it feels better to branch out rather than continue making music together.”

“No band lasts forever,” they continued. “Our love for you will certainly last forever. We have a lot of love for each other and ALWAYS will, and we are the real people behind the screen you’re looking at, so keep that in mind before you say anything and please respect our privacy.”

The duo penned an Instagram caption several months ago urging their fans to spend more time enjoying their music and less time “shipping” them as a couple, and those words now carry more resonance than ever.

We wish all the best for Alex Kinsey and Sierra Deaton, and we hope they find their way as solo artists.

Read their full statement below:

“We may be artists, but it seems the next words are some of the hardest we’ve ever had to write. Many of you have been keeping up with us for years; you watched us go from two kids who met on the beach in Florida in 2009 to a couple who won a tv show and released albums and toured the country. We’ve had an awfully magical time with each other and with you.

“Unfortunately things chage a lot in 8 years, and though we didn’t tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year ago.”

“But as everyone does know, we’ve been best friends forever and really tried to keep A&S going. However, we’re arrived at a place where it feels better to brand out rather than continue making music together.

“This last album and tour were hard on our hears. So thank you to anyone who ever watched videos of us, bought a cd, came to see us live, bought merch, or simply enjoyed the music and listened and shared with friends.

“No band lasts forever, whether they dated or not, but we will cherish every memory and our love for you will most certainly last forever. We have a lot of love for each other and ALWAYS will, and we are real people behind the screen you’re looking at, so keep that in mind before you say anything and please respect our privacy.”

This is sad news, the two of you seemed to be so in love. Remember love will rise and fall in ebbs. During those times you fall out of love the key is to keep the commitment. (this is something my parents told me kept them together 60 yrs.) Hope you find your way back together someday. As for professionally, the attraction and love for each other was your edge, what made it work. Sorry, but that’s what I see. Good luck
