Maddie Ziegler Opens Up About How Her Late Grandmother Makes Her a Better Dancer

Maddie Ziegler is opening up about the loss of her grandmother, who passed away after a battle with cancer.

Although the 14-year-old dancer and actress never had the opportunity to meet her grandma, she says that she makes her a better dancer.

“My mom always told me that she would have loved to meet me and that we would have gotten along so well. I think that she makes me a stronger dancer,” Maddie told People as part of the Dancers Against Cancer campaign.

Maddie even dedicated one of her solo dance routines to her grandmother, who she says has become her “little good luck charm” whenever she goes out on stage.

She is teaming up with Dancers Against Cancer to share their mission of providing financial support to dance educators, dancers and parents impacted by cancer.

“I’m so inspired by all of the girls I met because they are so strong and they’re incredible dancers. It’s really amazing that they’re fighting, that they’re so strong and they love dance. It’s dancers supporting other dancers,” Maddie added.
