'The Fosters' is Addressing Trump's Anti-Immigration Policies in Tonight's Finale

The Fosters is known for tackling important modern-day issues, from trans rights to abortion — and in tonight’s season finale, the show is addressing a major one.

The season 5 finale will be dealing with immigration laws, and with the current administration’s anti-immigrant policies that are affecting thousands.

The issue is more timely than ever with Donald Trump‘s move to end the DACA program, which allows illegal immigrants who came into the country as children a way to stay without being deported.

“We think it’s an important story to tell because these kids have been brought here by their parents,” executive producer Joanna Johnson told Variety.

“They’re not Mexican citizens, or they don’t feel like they are,” she continued. “We’re supposed to care about keeping families together, but we’re ripping these families apart.”

We can’t wait to see how the show handles it.
