Gina Rodriguez Calls Out Fans Who Are Complaining About the New Mateo For 'Jane The Virgin'

Just before the weekend, Gina Rodriguez premiered the brand new poster for Jane The Virgin‘s season 4 — which debuted a brand new actor to play Mateo.

“This season is for my warriors,” she wrote on Instagram. “All the tears, the laughter, the love and the loss. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy making it. Love you all!”

Gina also added that she was excited to work with Elias, who plays the older Mateo: “He is pure love.”

However, some JtV fans aren’t happy about the casting change and decided to voice their opinions online with the #NotMyMateo — something that Gina caught onto quick and she’s not having it.

“He is 5 years old,” Gina wrote on Twitter today. “I’m going to need all y’all commenting on new Mateo to take one dirty second and realize you are insulting a 5 year old!”

YAS, GINA!

We get that some might not be happy about having a casting change on one of your favorite shows, but we also have to realize when it is a child, it’s inevitable. The writing may skip years, and kids grow up.

We’re sure Elias will be the best Mateo ever and you’ll love him just as much as the two previous actors.
