'Riverdale' Showrunner Says Series Will Touch on Issue of Consent For Varchie & More

When it comes to television, sex sells… but it’s equally important for teen shows to demonstrate the importance of consent and of safe sex to their young audience.

In a new interview, creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa talks whether Riverdale addresses these everyday issues in season 2.

“We definitely address the issue of consent in an upcoming story,” he revealed to Glamour. “And yeah, our characters are more — especially Archie and Veronica — sexually active this season.”

“I definitely think Archie and Veronica have had a conversation, or many, in fact, about safe sex,” he continued. “I wouldn’t be surprised if a conversation like that happens soon on the show.”

We’re glad that Riverdale is addressing consent this season, and we hope the safe sex conversation is to come (especially considering how frisky Varchie is getting this season)!
