Andi Mack's Joshua Rush & Peyton Elizabeth Lee Talk About Acceptance Theme in Season 2

Andi Mack came out strong with their second season premiere last week with a powerful storyline where Cyrus realizes his feelings for Jonah on the Disney Channel program.

It’s a storyline that creator Terri Minsky worked on with child development experts and screened for organizations such as GLAAD and PFLAG.

“I know there are a lot of kids out there who think that they’re weird and different,” she shared in a new featurette. “I guess I kind of wanted Buffy to say it to all of them, and I wanted it to feel like acceptance.”

Joshua Rush adds that he “hopes people, out of Cyrus’s storyline, get this feeling like you can be who are, and if there’s something you’re thinking about, you should talk about it.”

Peyton Elizabeth Lee is more than proud about storyline, saying that she loves that the show can create conversation between families.

“I hope it gives kids the confidence to be proud of who they are and just be happy with themselves,” she shared. “All of the stories in Andi Mack, particularly Cyrus’ story, give this amazing opportunity to open conversation between parents and kids, or between friends.”
