Rowan Blanchard Reveals She Almost Didn't Say Yes to 'Girl Meets World'

Rowan Blanchard graces the cover of Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, and is opening up about her time on Disney, bringing a voice to young adults, feminism and more.

The biggest revelation from her interview though is that she almost passed on the role of Riley Matthews on Girl Meets World, the daughter of Cory and Topanga.

“My agent sent over Girl Meets World. I was like, ‘I will not do Disney ever in my life,’” she shared. “I watched Disney, but I thought that if you wanted to be a serious film actress then you couldn’t be a Disney actress.”

Rowan continues, “Which is partially true I do have to work harder to be taken seriously.”

Thankfully, she did accept the role, but it didn’t come without it’s challenges.

The series, which was cancelled after only three seasons, started talking about serious issues and Rowan was proud to be a part of that.

“We started thinking about what it could be like if we made this show that was funny for kids, but was also teaching them something,” she says. “Then, when I started discovering activism, I think it made the show that much better, because we were really getting into these topics, having conversations… If I didn’t like something I would talk to [the writers] about it.”

Rowan adds, “It was nice to feel heard and to be respected in a way that I didn’t necessarily feel on a lot of sets that I’d worked on previously.”
