Here's How Camila Cabello Became More Confident While Working On Her Debut Album

Camila Cabello has had an amazing 2017 — from leaving Fifth Harmony and striking out on her own, to having a handful of breakout hits, including “Havana”.

Speaking with Beats 1 and Zane Lowe, the 20-year-old musician opened up about how working on her debut album, she found a confidence she never knew she had.

“I feel like somewhere throughout the album I was just over that,” she recalled about changing her album title. “I was so over that. It was like everything that I talked about it in an interview it just made it really difficult to really move on.”

Camila continues, “I don’t want to give that power over somebody else; that the whole first album revolves around them and this bad situation. Its giving that too much power.”

“I think that everything happens in a parallel way where it was me taking power over the title and control over what the album was about and me just taking power over my own life.”

On top of changing the album title, Camila continued to find even more confidence in herself and her music.

“I feel like it’s important for me as a new artist and especially people hearing ‘Havana’ and more people kind of knowing who I am, I think that it’s really important that the message is like super consistent.”

“So even if other songs like ‘OMG’ or ‘I Have Questions’ or ‘Crying’, represented me in the beginning parts of the year,” Camila says. “It felt I have grown and grown more as an artist and as a person.”

Camila‘s debut album, Camila, is out in January.
