Camila Cabello Reveals That Her Songwriting Was One of the Things That Led To her Split with Fifth Harmony

We always kind of knew that Camila Cabello was a talented songwriter — we mean, we have an album and then a handful of other songs that prove it.

However, when she first started to write her own material, it was rather difficult.

Camila opened up about being told no by others when she was still in Fifth Harmony in a recent interview with the NY Times.

She had wanted to help collaborate with the group’s songwriters and was “rebuffed”, the article states.

“I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free,” Camila shares. “I just wanted to do that and it did not work.”

Since she wasn’t able to write for the group, she went elsewhere and began attending writing sessions with producers including Diplo, Cashmere Cat and Benny Blanco.

It was then that she was given a choice — stay in the group, or try and go solo.

“It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time,” she said, making her choice to go solo.

Camila adds, “If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no.”

Camila is exactly right. If she and the other ladies wanted to pursue other things, they should have had the right to do so. It’s pretty sad that Camila wanted to write FOR the group, and she was told no. That makes no sense to me. Then again, the way their label handled the girls makes no sense to me. I feel like they were shafted in so many ways. And then when Camila started venturing out to pursue solo endeavors, the label didn’t seem to have an issue with it. I know the girls are mad at Camila, but they should also be frustrated with their label as well. I just hope that we can get out of Camila, and the breakup with 5H for good. It’s been over a year now and both parties have moved on. Also the “shade” that people bring up when both artists release songs thinking that they are about each other. That is so stupid to me. Move on everybody. Let these young ladies live their lives in the way they see fit.
