Lili Reinhart Credits Demi Lovato For Inspiring Her To Talk About Her Own Mental Health

Lili Reinhart has been an advocate for mental health awareness as long as we’ve known her — and she’s crediting Demi Lovato with inspiring her to talk openly about it too.

In her new cover story for Ocean Drive, the Riverdale starlet reveals that the “Confident” singer was the first to openly talk about her own mental health.

“I didn’t have someone who was talking about it,” Lili shared. “I remember being in middle and high school and hearing Demi Lovato speak up about her mental illness and that was comforting. But I wanted more people to stand up.”

She adds, “I needed more people to relate to. I was like, all these people can’t be so happy, can they? It was kind of like this unrealistic picture that was painted in front of me of all these happy, happy people, successful people, beautiful people.”

Lili also says that it’s okay for anyone to struggle with mental health, herself included, even if they appear to have a good life on the outside.

“Even now, I’m on this wonderful show. I have money in my bank account. I have my own apartment. I have friends,” Lili points out, before adding that she still goes “through and experience depression. You don’t have to be ashamed of it. You don’t need to ever justify the way you feel.”
