The moment that the West Side Story remake was announced, many of us were already dream casting the movie, which will be helmed by Steven Spielberg.
Many fans are even campaigning for Camila Cabello to take on the role of Maria, who was portrayed by the late Natalie Wood in the original movie.
“Camila @Camila_Cabello for Maria in West Side Story would be perfect!!! Best choice ever!” one fan wrote.
Another added, “I have wanted for Camila to play Maria in a re-make/new interpretation of West Side Story probably ever since I’ve seen the movie so YES PLEASE szghxxbj.”
Even Taylor Swift‘s music video diretor Joseph Kahn agrees:

However, there are some who are NOT in favor of it.
“So supposedly they’re doing a remake of West Side Story. I stg they better not cast Camila Cabello for the role of Maria,” one writes before explaining her reasons. “1) she’s not Puerto Rican; 2) she has no acting experience. I love her but she better not be casted.”
Another adds, “All I want from the remake of West Side Story is for the cast who are playing Puerto Ricans to actually be Puerto Ricans. Like come on it’s not that hard to find Puerto Rican actors and singers.”
