Madelaine Petsch Had Cystic Acne In 'Riverdale' Season 1: 'I’m Not Ashamed of It At All'

Madelaine Petsch is opening up about her skincare and skin problems.

The Riverdale actress recently shared that she had cystic acne throughout the first season of her show, relating it to the stress and amount of makeup she wore.

“I used to have cystic acne on my forehead, in season one. I’m not ashamed of it at all; it’s just the reality of the situation,” she told Glamour. “Then I started looking at what was going on with my skin, and my makeup artist told me I have to be double- or triple-cleansing my face every night. They just put so much makeup on, especially on my character.”

“I wasn’t that confident at first because I’d be on camera and [the crew] would say, ‘Don’t worry, we can light it.’ And I would think, Oh great, it’s that bad?” she added. “I struggled with that all of last year, but this year I’m really drinking a lot of water. I’m also way happier. I was happy season one but really stressed. It was my first show, and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. I’m very type-A.”

“This season we’re all back in the groove of things, and I think all of our skin is a lot more clear than it was last year,” Madelaine said. B”ecause we were also waiting to see if we got picked up for a season, and then we were waiting to see if we were picked up for season two. All of that is so much pressure and stress, and now we can all mellow out a bit and enjoy our life. I feel like a lot of people in our industry try to act like everything’s perfect, and life is great. Our cast is all so new to it that we don’t have a façade to put up. We’re all just normal people. I worked three jobs before I booked Riverdale to pay my rent.”
