Alisha Wainwright Teases 'Shadowhunters' Season 3: 'Be Prepared For Some Shake Ups'

Tonight’s the big return of Shadowhunters and we are so stoked about it — especially after talking with star Alisha Wainwright.

The 28–year-old actress, who plays Maia in the series, chatted with JJJ about the new season, new villain and new relationships.

“I would be prepared for some surprising shake ups,” Alisha dished about the whole feel for the season. “Viewers will get the whole picture on what it’s like in the day to day life of the downworlders once the dust has settled from the season two finale.”

When we mentioned new villain Lilith, it was clear that Maia, and Alisha, did not like her one bit.

“She’s terrifying and she’s out for blood,” she shared. “Maia doesn’t like anyone that comes between her and the ones she loves.”

Shadowhunters premieres TONIGHT @ 8PM ET/PT on Freeform.

On Maia’s backstory: “We got to hear some of the story in season two, but now you get a closer look. That flashback shoot happened to be on one of the coldest days of winter! Aside from freezing to the bone it was a blast.”

On Maia & Simon’s relationship: “Once that decision [featured at the end of season two] gets reconciled, we get to see the challenges of a vampire dating a werewolf. It’s fun and it’s different from what they’ve had to deal with until now.”

On Maia & Luke working together: “Power dynamics have always been a topic within the wolf pack and Maia has always been by Luke’s side. However we do have to wonder if they had disagreements how that would rock the boat.”

On Maia & Clary possibly getting to work together: “Kat is a gem and I think we will eventually see Clary and Maia’s stories become more intertwined. Luckily, I get to see Kat outside work. Honestly I’ll take any storyline as long as we get a fight scene.”

On becoming a series regular: “[It was] Life changing! This production ticked all my boxes with great showrunners, a welcoming cast, and the fun city of Toronto as backdrop. I’m a lucky girl.”
