Grace VanderWaal Relays Words of Encouragement to Marjory Stoneman Douglas Students Ahead of March For Our Lives

Grace VanderWaal chatted with Billboard this week, ahead of the March for Our Lives, and offered words of encouragement to the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The 13-year-old “City Song” musician spoke alongside student Sofie Whitney about the power of music in the middle of gun safety debates.

“I think that [they've been] so beautiful and brave,” Grace shared. “I can’t believe this has happened, but I also can’t believe the bravery of all the young people right now, and how inspiring and beautiful [it is] to see people stepping up to make a difference for a more peaceful tomorrow.”

Grace adds that she’s proud of what she’s been watching the students do following the tragic shooting at the school.

“It’s made me so proud of my generation [watching] how people have stood up. For people to take a stand — especially young people, and especially to organize a march — it really makes me proud of my generation. And I don’t think they should stop. I think we should keep going and keep being brave.”

The March For Our Lives happens this weekend in Washington, D.C.
