Nina Dobrev Opens Up About Moving On From 'The Vampire Diaries' With Comedy

Nina Dobrev is opening up about her life post-Vampire Diaries in the upcoming January 2019 issue of Women’s Health.

The 29-year-old actress recalls after saying goodbye to the long running series as Elena Gilbert, how she was worried that she might end up pigeonholed in her career.

“I was like, ‘Why am I here? What am I doing? Is it making me happy? What can I do to make me happier?’” Nina says. So, she turned towards comedy, but wasn’t being taken seriously at all.

She adds, “They [potential bosses] were just like, ‘Oh, she was on a [teen] drama. She’s not funny.’”

So, to turn her luck around she took Improv 101 classes: “I probably sucked. But I got better.” She pitched a sketch to Funny or Die. She even wrote a feature-length comedy.

Then, her new series, Fam, came.

The show is set to premiere on Thursday, January 10th @ 9:30PM ET/PT on CBS.

Nina was not nor has ever just been “ another teen drama actor” she literally is the most incredible wide ranged talented person I have seen on t.v and movies for that matter. I frequently rewatch VD and still cant believe how many roles she pulled off and changes in personality and growth for each character. I have always said that girl deserves a true oscar. Not only did she play multiple roles and personalities convincingly all at one time while on VD but the scene in the episode where Damon dies and doesnt come back from other side and she is destroyed has to be the most compelling emotionally believable scene I have seen since Sally Fields in Steel Magnolias. So Nina what ever you do I am positive you will shine. And if you ever go and stay big screen it would seriously give some of these actresses a run for their money literally.
