Disney Set To Turn 'Hunchback of Notre Dame' Into Live Action Movie

It’s official, Disney is truly remaking all of their animated film library into live action movies, and the latest is The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Deadline and Disney announced today that there are plans to give the tale a live-action musical adaption, simply titled Hunchback.

Playwright David Henry Hwang will write the script, with Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz writing the music for the production.

The film will gather inspiration both from the 1996 animated film and the book which the musical is based on, by Victor Hugo.

If you don’t know, The Hunchback of Notre Dame centered on Quasimodo, the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral, who bides his time locked away in a tower.

With only gargoyles to keep him company, Quasimodo longs to be with other people, leading to his chance encounter with the enchanting Gypsy Esmeralda. When the beautiful young woman catches the attention of Quasimodo’s guardian, sinister Frollo, Quasimodo must help to keep her out of his clutches.
