'Jane The Virgin' Showrunner Shares That Fans Will See Callbacks To The Pilot in New Season

Jane The Virgin‘s final season is back tomorrow and showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman is dishing all about the easter eggs fans might see in the new episodes.

Talking during the show’s Paleyfest event, she shared that there would be callbacks to the pilot.

“There are a lot of echoes of the pilot in this first script, and that’s going to be something that we’re continuing through the season,” she shared. “…seeing how people have evolved and how you can be in a similar situation but everything is different about it now, and how five years have changed us.”

Jennie also spoke to TV Guide about why the fifth season was the best time to end the show.

“I just felt like I always have to think about the seasons and just how much story I really have in terms of Jane’s journey. I just really didn’t want to be spinning wheels. And I didn’t want to be repeating the same mistakes that the characters make because then you start to feel like, ‘Come on! Pull it together.’”

She continued, “When I really think about it, I have to think about the spine of the season, one whole story to be told, and I felt like [Season] 5 was about as much as I [could] do without it starting to get repetitive, without characters starting to take steps backwards in ways that maybe wouldn’t be organic. And also, just how much juice I think we had in the central stories before we got to a natural ending.”

Jane The Virgin will premiere March 26th @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.
