iTunes Is Officially Going Away

RIP, iTunes.

The program has been a staple on Apple products since its launch in 2001, but the company is retiring the app and will phase it out soon.

Apple confirmed the news at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday (June 3) in San Jose, California.

This doesn’t mean that music, movies, and TV are leaving Apple devices, of course. Now, the many functions that iTunes performs will be split into three separate apps, Craig Federighi, the vice president of software engineering at Apple, confirmed at the conference.

“Customers love iTunes and everything it can do. But if there’s one thing we hear over and over, it’s ‘Can iTunes do even more?’” Craig explained.

Going forward, Apple products will use different apps for music, TV and podcasts.
