Zendaya Doesn't Want To Label Herself an Activist: 'I Can Work Harder To Earn That Title'

Zendaya is all smiles on stage during the at&t Dream In Black Brunch event during the 2019 Essence Festival on Sunday afternoon (July 7) in New Orleans, La.

The 22-year-old actress joined filmmaker Ava Duvernay for the event, which is a call-to-action for Black people to dream big, fully embrace Black culture, and live their wildest dreams.

During a recent interview, Zendaya shied away from being called an activist.

“I would say I’m just a good person trying to do the right thing,” she told Elle UK. “A lot of other people are doing the hard work, going out on to the streets. Those people are the activists. I just want to support them.”

Zendaya adds, “I appreciate being called [an activist], but I can do better. Like everyone else. I can work harder and do more to earn that title.”
