Indiana Massara Says LGBTQ+ Representation on Screen is 'Super Important,' Especially for Young People

Indiana Massara is opening up about the importance of having LGBTQ+ characters on camera.

The 17-year-old singer and actress, who plays the bi-sexual character Rooney in Chicken Girls – got candid in a recent interview.

“It’s super important for the LGBTQ community to be represented, especially on a series that has such a young audience,” she said (via Tiger Beat).

“It was really cool to be that person that got to bring Rooney’s story to life,” she continued. “[Stories like hers] aren’t shown in television and movies as often as they should be.”

“So many people can relate to her,” Indiana Massara added. “I’ve had young people come to me and tell me that they found the courage to come out to their parents because of it. It’s beautiful to hear that.”

Singer Hayley Kiyoko has also opened up about the importance of having LGBTQ+ allies.
