Isabella Ferreira Dishes On 'Love, Victor' In Exclusive Interview

Isabella Ferreira is talking all things Love, Victor!

The teen actress stars in the new Hulu series as Pilar Salazar, the younger sister to Victor.

JJJ talked to Isabella about tapping into the emotions of Pilar, when she found out about landing the role, the hardest part about filming, and more.

“Growing up I didn’t see many shows like this featuring a leading Latinx family but not only that, a show that follows the struggles that they go through. Varying from economical situations to their tolerance for the LGBTQ+ community. So the fact that I am able to be a part of something that I would’ve loved to see when I was younger is an amazing feeling,” she shared with us.

Just Jared Jr: Where were you when you found out you got the part? What was your reaction like?
Isabella Ferreira: I was back at home on the east coast with my family when I found out I booked the part of Pilar on Love, Victor. I was so fortunate to have only had to do one audition in order to book the job. I remember my agent calling me about 3 weeks after the original audition and telling me they wanted to fly me out to LA for a screen test the following week. I was so excited just to be able to even get that far whether or not I even booked the job. About an hour after that call she calls back and says, “forget about the screen test…you booked the job!” I was speechless. In that moment my mom and I were just standing their crying tears of joy. It was a nice moment

JJJ: Had you seen Love, Simon prior to auditioning?
IF: I did see Love, Simon prior to auditioning. I was actually one of the first people to see it in my city, because one theater had an exclusive pre-screening. I thought it was a beautiful story that impacted many lives and just remembered hoping to be a part of something like it one day. Who would’ve thought I actually could?

JJJ: Who was your favorite character?
IF: My favorite character from the movie would probably be Bram (played by Keiynan Lonsdale). He just seems like the type of character you wish were a real person that you could be friends with.

JJJ: What does it mean to you to be part of a TV show like Love, Victor?
IF: It means so much to be a part of a show like Love, Victor. So the fact that I am able to be a part of something that I would’ve loved to see when I was younger is an amazing feeling.

JJJ: Pilar goes through a roller coaster of emotions in the first couple of episodes in regards to her boyfriend. How was that experience of playing the “crazy, paranoid” girlfriend?
IF: Playing a “crazy paranoid” girlfriend was a pretty interesting experience. I personally haven’t had to deal with moving thousands of miles away from a significant other at such a young age, but it was fun to imagine I had. I think Pilar handled the situation as best she could though.

JJJ: She also has quite a few powerful emotional reactions/moments throughout the season. What was it like tapping into the different extremes – anger, sadness, etc?
IF: Pilar does have a lot of emotional moments in the season. I don’t think it was super hard trying to tap those emotions. The main reason being that I put myself in her shoes and reacted the way that felt right. Some moments are really intense so my feelings just flow without me really having to try.

JJJ: What was your favorite part of filming?
IF: My favorite part of filming was learning from everyone. I’m grateful to have such wonderful cast mates and crew. I have made lifelong friends, basically family and I couldn’t be happier about it. I also really enjoyed working at Paramount. It was truly a dream come true, and i was lucky to be able to wake up every day with a smile on my face for work.

JJJ: Do you have a favorite episode?
IF: I wouldn’t say I have a favorite episode, but I guess an episode I am excited to see is episode 7. If I remember correctly you get to see Pilar and Felix bond a bit and it was really fun to film.

JJJ: What’s your most memorable off camera moment?
IF: My most memorable off camera experience is probably when the cast and I made a last minute weekend trip to Big Bear. That’s a weekend I’ll never forget. It was so much fun getting to really know everyone in a comfy cabin in the woods.

JJJ: What was the hardest part about filming?
IF: The hardest part about filming for me is probably when it ends. You spend every day with the same people for months. You get used to it and then when it’s over it’s hard to say goodbye. I remember my last night I cried like a baby. It was so embarrassing everyone was expecting some speech from me, and I stood there with makeup and tears running down my face just ugly crying. Everybody around me has probably been doing this for years it’s nothing new for them, but this was my first experience as a series regular for a show. Getting to grow with a show like this is an amazing experience and this is only the beginning.

JJJ: What do you hope to see in the show for season two?
IF: For season two I hope to see so many things. Like what happens to the Salazar family? Season one ends on such a cliffhanger I have so many questions. I’d also like to see more on Felix’s background/storyline. Also, now that Victor has discovered himself somewhat by the end of season one what is he going to do?

JJJ: What about for Pilar?
IF: I hope to see Pilar’s growth in season two. Based off of how season one ends I wonder if she’s going to grow more confident with herself or completely break down. It’s a tough situation but I hope she opens up to more people.
