Disney/Pixar Wins Best Animated Feature For 'Soul,' Has Most Wins For Any Studio

Disney/Pixar’s Soul has picked up the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 2021 Academy Awards on Sunday (April 25)!

The hit animated film, which debuted on Disney+ on Christmas Day 2020, beat out another Disney/Pixar film, Onward, as well as Netflix’s Over The Moon and Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon and Apple TV’s Wolfwalkers.

Director and co-writer Pete Docter and executive producer Dana Murray accepted the award during the ceremony. Check out photos of them on the red carpet!

This is the third Best Animated Feature Oscar that Pete has received. He has previously won the same award for Up and Inside Out.

The Soul win also marks another win for Disney and Pixar, who have won the most times in this category since it’s conception. The first award for Best Animated Feature was handed out in 2002 for the 2001 film year, and it went to Shrek, which just celebrated it’s 20 year anniversary.

Disney has won the Best Animated Feature award 14 times, and Pixar, 11 times, for the following films – Finding Nemo (2003), The Incredibles (2004), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010), Brave (2012), Frozen (2013), Big Hero 6 (2014), Inside Out (2015), Zootopia (2016), Coco (2017), Toy Story 4 (2019), and now Soul (2021).
