CW's Mark Pedowitz Says The 'Powerpuff' Pilot That Was Shot Was 'Just a Miss'

This week it was revealed that the live action Powerpuff Girls pilot is getting reworked at The CW.

Now, the network’s boss Mark Pedowitz is opening up more about the episode that was shot and why it didn’t work…

The executive said that the show was “too campy” and not as “rooted in reality” as they were hoping it would be.

“The reason you do pilots is because sometimes things miss, and this was just a miss,” he said, via Variety. “We believe in the cast completely, we believe in Diablo [Cody] and Heather [Regnier], the writers, and we believe in the auspices of [executive producer] Greg Berlanti and Warner [Bros.] Studios.”

“In this case the pilot didn’t work,” Mark added. “But because we see there’s enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot. So that’s why we didn’t want to go forward with what we had. Tonally, it might’ve felt a little too campy. It didn’t feel as rooted in reality as it might’ve felt. But again, you learn things when you test things out. And so in this case, we felt, let’s take a step back and go back to the drawing board.”

He also added that since the show has garnered a lot interest, “we want to get it right before we put it out.”

The full cast, writers and producers for Powerpuff are still attached to the project.
