Who Plays Pizza Boy Howie On 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series'? Meet Roman Banks!

A new character made his way onto High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in episode three, “Valentine’s Day,” which premiered on Friday (May 28)!

That new character is Howie, “a hyper-smart, bespectacled, adorkable high school junior. Snarky yet full of heart, Howie has an after school job as the delivery guy for Big Red’s family’s pizza shop, Salt Lake Slices.”

And who plays Howie? None other than Roman Banks!

Howie first comes on the show in a scene with Kourtney (Dara Renee), and the two don’t exactly get off on the right foot. Howie wasn’t exactly that welcoming to Kourtney’s new job at the pizza shop, as his boss. But, later on in the episode, the two had a better interaction and seemed to hit it off a bit better.

Howie is actually named after Disney legend Howard Ashman, who famously worked with Alan Menken on Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. You can actually learn more about him in the documentary film Howard, which is streaming on Disney+!

Howie is one of a few new characters on the show, which also includes Zack (Derek Hough), Lily (Olivia Rose Keegan), Antoine (Andrew Barth Feldman) and Jack (Asher Angel).

Roman and Andrew actually have something in common – they were both in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway!

Roman, who of course is an actor and singer, is most well known for making history in Dear Evan Hansen. He served as an understudy for all three lead male roles – Evan, Jared and Connor – and in 2018, he went on stage as the first Black Evan Hansen! Check out a photo HERE. On the music front, Roman has put out his debut EP, Days, back in March 2020, and in November, he released a new song called “You.” Check it out below!
