Alexandra Raisman: Jordyn Wieber Out of All-Arounds in 2012 Olympics

Alexandra Raisman: Jordyn Wieber Out of All-Arounds in 2012 Olympics

Alexandra Raisman is shocked when she sees her score on the boards at the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team qualification on Day 2 of the London 2012 Olympic Games held at North Greenwich Arena on Sunday afternoon (July 29) in London.

The 18-year-old Team Captain was also fed the news that teammate Jordyn Wieber didn’t qualify for the Team All-Arounds. Countries are limited to two gymnasts in the all-around and event finals.

“I was really surprised, and I feel awful because she wanted it so bad,” Aly told ESPN. “But she should still feel proud because she’s an Olympian. We have to stay calm and focused on team finals.”

The American team is on top, with Russia, China and Britain following.

Aly, Jordyn, Gabrielle Douglas, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross are also seen after training sessions earlier in the week.

2012 Olympics: Missy Franklin Qualifies For Seven Swim Events

Missy Franklin and Michael Phelps accept their Omega watches for Male and Female Swimmers of the Meet after the 2012 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials held at the CenturyLink Center last week in Omaha, Neb.

The 17-year-old swimmer broke records during the trails — qualifying for seven events for the upcoming Olympic games. No American woman had ever qualified for more than six.

“The whole week, I think, went really, really well,” Missy told USA Today.

“It went just as well as (coach) Todd (Schmitz) and I could have ever asked for, so I think we’re both thrilled. I can’t believe I have seven events. That’s so overwhelming but so exciting at the same time,” she added.

No London Olympics For Nastia Liukin

No London Olympics For Nastia Liukin

Nastia Liukin waves goodbye to the crowds after competing during the 2012 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials held at HP Pavilion on Sunday night (July 1) in San Jose, Calif.

Unfortunately, the 22-year-old gymnast didn’t quality for the London team.

“Of course I wanted to go out and put two good performances out there and end my career that way, so it’s a little upsetting,” Nastia told Sporting News. “Today is something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It can easily compare to winning the all-around gold medal to me. Those are pretty much the two highlights of my career … winning an all-around gold medal and getting a standing ovation not once but twice.”

She added on Twitter a few hours later, “Thank you to the 18,000 people that gave me a standing ovation tonight. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. Most importantly…Thank u to my parents & special people in my life that always kept me calm, believed in me & shown their love & support.”
