2016 Year End Recap Latest News, Photos, and Videos

Rowan Blanchard is a ray of light. Many people think 2016 has turned out to be a stale potato chip: hard to swallow, chewy, and altogether just worse than it was supposed to be. Still, despite being a year that historians may cringe at, there are a number of people who have fought to change the world for the better this year.

If you are an activist at heart, or just support people who want to make the world a better place, here are 12 stars you need to know in 2017.

1. Shailene Woodley

This past year, Shailene Woodley proved herself to be far more than an actress, using her fame and her platform to raise awareness for and to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline, a crude oil line that may taint the water supply for Standing Rock, a sacred Native American site. Shailene not only posted about the injustice on Instagram, but she also went to North Dakota herself to protest, getting arrested in the process, but coming back stronger than ever.

2. Rowan Blanchard

Rowan Blanchard has been hailed a feminist icon, and for good reason: she uses her Instagram to post about causes that are meaningful to her, from the election to the patriarchy, and she speaks out whenever she can about what feminism means to her and its impact on the world. Rowan is a hopeful indicator that the new generation is smart, thoughtful, and progressive — and that our future may be bright after all.

2016 is coming to a close, and with that comes list after list of bests �- the best actors, the best singers, the best emerging talent of the year.

But, let’s face it, there have been some seriously weird/sad/random moments moments that had they not existed, the celebrity entertainment world would definitely be a better place.

The following sucks irrefutably fall in to 2016′s con column.

Here are a smattering of this year’s happenings that we most wish we could take back:

Feelings were hurt all around when Camila Cabello decided to leave Fifth Harmony, but the public accusations that followed had Harmonizers taking sides. Understandably disappointed Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei put out a public statement before Camila had the chance to make the announcement herself. Camila said she was shocked at the move and released her own statement, which gave a brief version of her side of the story… and it kept going. The 5H split wasn’t totally shocking — after all, both Camila and Lauren were both publicly working on side projects — but we hope that time can heal the wounds between these former besties.

January 10 marked a rocky start to the New Year with everyone’s favorite Disney Channel coupleAustin & Ally — aka Laura Marano and Ross Lynch — gracing our screens one last time. The show’s exit left a gaping void in our lives that has yet to be filled by any amount of ice-cream or Hannah Montana reruns.

Stars like Olivia Holt, Nastia Liukin, Joey Bragg, Zoella, Keke Palmer, and many more have shared messages of looking back on 2016 and hoping that 2017 will be better as a whole for everyone.

“Honestly – idk if it’s the era, the city, the age, my career or what. But this year really showed me how opportunistic people can be,” Keke reflected on her Instagram. “Everyone that’s around you isn’t around you to hurt you or love you, to be a friend or an enemy, some are literally just doing whatever JUST IN CASE.”

She adds, “Actions, actions never lie and one can make a habit out of being inconsistent. If people can’t be definite in why they want to be in your life, that means they only coming to you to TAKE not give. If you the kind of person that will treat me differently depending on how poppin’ I am at the time, stay tf away from me.
