This year’s award show looked a little different as it brought together live and pre-recorded elements from New York City and Los Angeles on Sunday night (August 30).
Ariana was even a big winner of the night, taking home four moon persons, Taylor Swift won an award for Best Direction and BTS picked up a few awards as well.

CNCO take the stage for their first ever main stage performance at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, which aired on Sunday (August 30).
The Latin group sang and danced to their brand new song “Beso,” which was just released two days before!
In addition to their high energy performance, CNCO also took home their very first VMA moon person.
The guys won the award for Best Quarantine Performance for their Unplugged at Home performance.

“Wow, a dream come true. Thank you for the opportunity @vmas & thank you CNCOwners for the votes, we share this MOON MAN with you all!” Joel Pimentel shared on Instagram.
Ariana and Gaga‘s collab was nominated for multiple awards at the show. They took home the moon person for Song of the Year and Best Cinematography.
Ariana also picked up Best Music Video From Home and Best Collaboration for “Stuck With U” with Justin Bieber.

The K-Pop group performed their new all-English single “Dynamite” on TV for the first time.
It also marked BTS‘ first time performing at the VMAs!
BTS were also nominated for multiple awards at the show, picking up a few moon persons.
The guys won Best Pop and Best K-Pop for “On” and Best Group, giving them five total wins between this year and last year.
BTS‘ latest hit single has been dominating iTunes charts and breaking records. Earlier this month, they had the top four spots on the iTunes Singles chart in the US.

Earlier in the night, Miley hit the red carpet in a sheer dress that offered a sparkle at different moments. See all the pics if you missed them!
“#vmas red carpet moment yasssssss,” Miley tweeted with her carpet photos.
Miley was nominated for Song of The Summer, but unfortunately lost out to BLACKPINK. She’s also up for Best Art Direction and Best Editing for her song “Mother’s Daughter.”

“I’m so grateful for this,” Taylor said in her acceptance speech. “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to the team who believed in me as a first time director and who made this video with me.”
Taylor has previously won 10 VMAs over the years, including for Best Collaboration, Best Visual Effects, Video of the year and more.
