One Direction Gets a Shout Out in 5SOS 'Old Me' Video

5 Seconds of Summer paid tribute to One Direction in the “Old Me” music video and you may have missed it!

In one of the scenes on the train, a group of One Direction look-alike actors sit down across from 5SOS.

During the brief interaction, 1D (including Zayn Malik) chat among themselves in the outfits from the “What Makes You Beautiful” music video.

One Direction notably owned a financial stake in 5SOS early in their career and took them on multiple worldwide tours.

The “Old Me” video also featured lots of other throwback clips, including references to some of the band’s first shows, awards and debut album!

5 Seconds of Summer is looking back on their journey in the music video for “Old Me.”

The group – Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – headed to Australia to film the nostalgic video.

“[The video] captures the story of how it all began, the twists and turns in between, and where we are today,” the group wrote on their Instagram.

The feature includes clips of the bands through the years and references some of their most pivotal moments including their tour with One Direction, their first album and their AMA win. The guys even recruited young actors to portray themselves in their early years!

5 Seconds of Summer just released another song off of their upcoming album!

The group – Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – dropped “Old Me,” which is all about growing up.

“‘Old Me’ carries a youthful spirit and follows the narrative of a young persons life growing up, for better or for worse,” Luke explained in a statement.

He continued, “Every decision we made, whether right or wrong, has led us to the men we are proud to be today. We were thrown into the public eye at a young age and gratefully had each other at a confusing time. Sometimes it’s important we look back in order to appreciate the journey we’ve been on together.”

5 Seconds of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford is spilling on his upcoming wedding!

The 24-year-old is getting ready to tie the knot with fiancee Crystal Leigh, after proposing to her last year.

While wedding planning is underway, Michael says they won’t walk down the aisle until next year.

“We’re going to do it early next year, probably in January,” Michael said on Nova 96.9 Fitzy & Wippa.

As for entertainment, the duo were thinking of some former tour mates!

“We did tour with The Chainsmokers so we were thinking of asking them to come and DJ, that would be sick – hopefully they don’t charge their usual fee cause that would quadruple the budget of the whole wedding!” Michael joked.

5 Seconds of Summer hit the stage at the Fire Fight Australia Bushfire Relief Concert held at ANZ Stadium on Sunday (February 16) in Sydney, Aus.

The guys – Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – joined many other artists to perform at the event to help raise money for Australian fire relief efforts.

“Thank you for having us at The Australian Fire Fight concert! It will go down as one of my favorite memories of @5sos’s career 🖤,” Ashton wrote on Instagram with a shirtless pic from the concert.

5 Seconds of Summer Say 'Calm' Will Be The End of an Era

5 Seconds of Summer are closing a chapter in their history.

The group – Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, Michael Clifford and Luke Hemmings – say that their upcoming album Calm is the “end of the younger version of us.”

“I think we planted a lot of lyrical seeds for directions we could potentially go in. With this album, it’s a gateway into us exploring different lyricism,” Ashton told Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1.

He continued, “Yeah, [it's like a new era]. We have no idea what will happen. That’s why the album name is bold, it’s Calm, it’s the four of us. It’s the beginning and the end of the younger version of us.”
