Just in case you hadn’t figured out what the significance of 78violet meant, sisters Aly and AJ Michalka opened up to ET about the name change and how their music changed along with it. Check it:
AJ shared, “We’re women now and we’re growing up. It was time for a change.”
Aly added, “Our sound is changing, and the changes that are happening are natural and it’s been a slow progression.”
And what about the meaning of their new band name: “Purple and violet have been a huge part of out lives — it’s a really powerful color. … 78 stands for platinum in the periodic table of elements. … The definition of platinum means that no substance can corrode it, and I was like, ‘Dude, that’s our relationship. We cannot be corroded. Our relationship as sisters is unstoppable.”

AJ, alice + olivia dress and Gucci heels, also attended Andre Agassi Foundation for Education’s 15th Grand Slam for Children benefit concert at the Wynn Las Vegas over the weekend. The event raises funds to help improve education for underserved youth in the Las Vegas community.
FYI: Aly wore a violet Alexander Wang dress and Brian Atwood heels and AJ paired an Allison Parris skirt and McGinn top with Velvet Angels shoes.

Congrats, AJ Michalka!
The 19-year-old actress just announced that she’s joined Super 8, along side Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler.
The J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg-produced project is actually still a mystery — no one knows what the film is really about. Check out the teaser trailer to see what we’re talking about!
Super 8 is set to premiere next summer.

Aly Michalka watches her step as she and sister AJ head out of Teddy’s after celebrating the premiere of Easy A in West Hollywood on Monday night (September 13).
The 21-year-old actress recently told Seventeen mag about her sister and going out for the same roles: “When it comes to my sister [AJ] and I, I think the most shocking thing that people find out about us is the fact that we’re not competitive at all. We’ve actually auditioned for films for the same role together, and we’re not competitive. I think it’s because I would rather her get a job than anybody else if it wasn’t me.”

Aly shared, “It’s kind of like a female Superbad, it reminds me of that same theme. That’s a really special project to me because I fought so hard to get that role and because it was such a crazy kind of out-there foul mouthed character, a lot of people were surprised that I would want that role. But I found that there was this quirkiness to Rhiannon and Olive’s relationship that I just fell in love with.

Keeping her sweater close, Aly Michalka is spotted arriving at LAX airport in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The 21-year-old actress flew into town to record some new music with sister AJ.
Aly caught up with JJJ recently to chat about her upcoming series, Hellcats. She told us about her audition process, “It was crazy! I had to freestyle dance, learn some choreography and cheer. It was a big event where I not only proved myself as an actor, but as a dancer as well. It was so rewarding after I got the role. I had to do more than a normal audition would have went. I had to be physically in shape, I had to look the part, I had to act and I had to dance. It was worth it though.”
