The 78violet sisters chatted about their music, Violet House production company and more. Check it:
On their name change: “‘Aly & AJ’ has always been a part of who we are. It still is, and always will be, but we took some time to really hone our writing skills and our overall musicianship to take it to the next level. ‘Aly & AJ’ became one name, rather than a collaboration of two people. It was nice to focus on developing separately. It took us about a year to figure out what we wanted to become. Once we figured that out, it just felt right. The name ‘78Violet’ has a lot of very personal meaning to us.”
On the album: “I think the music will speak for itself. It’s all about experiences and the things that happened to us over the last few years. The relationships we’re writing about, the social issues we’re touching on they are all very fresh in our hearts and very personal to us.”
On their production company: “Violet House, and it’s been a really great learning experience. That world is kind of slow moving and we haven’t really established ourselves as producers yet, but that’s what we’re striving for. I’d like to think that Aly and I have a really good eye for new material, and we’re avid readers. We enjoy optioning properties that haven’t been discovered yet. We’ve learned to ask questions from some of the amazing people we’ve worked with in the past. Producing is a big dream of ours and a field, I think, we can definitely see ourselves being in for a long time.”
