Just like JJJ predicted, Alexa & Katie is coming back for a season two!

Netflix confirmed the rumors today with a studio audience shot on the sound stage.

Starring Paris Berelc and Isabel May as the title characters, the series centers on two best friends eagerly anticipating the start of their freshman year of high school; despite the fact that Alexa is undergoing cancer treatment.

Her outgoing personality and enthusiasm for life never falter, especially with her loyal and awkwardly adorable best friend Katie by her side.

TELL JJJ: Are you excited for another season of Alexa & Katie?

It’s not easy playing someone with cancer on a television show or in a movie, but Paris Berelc is doing it really well on Netflix’s Alexa & Katie.

While chatting with the 19-year-old actress recently, JJJ discovered that Paris and her cast mates did a lot of research before diving into the material for the series.

“We definitely did the research,” Paris tells us. “We went online and tried to get all the information that we could on the cancer that Alexa does have and how to handle it.”

On top of that, Paris and her co-stars also went to the Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles to meet with patients there.

“We met with a girl, who was actually named Katie, to hear her story,” Paris adds. “She was my same age, but still went to high school and has a boyfriend, and went to prom. Learning from her experience definitely helped me and the whole cast out in how to approach the story. I also have some other people in my life who had gone through cancer.”

If you’re still wondering what type of cancer Alexa is supposed to have, it’s a specific type of leukemia called ALL, acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

“We didn’t want to risk losing that audience who hasn’t really seen that character before by going too dark,” showrunner Heather Wordham shared with IndieWire. “So we picked this type of leukemia that has an incredibly high survival rate.”

She adds, “It’s common in kids and it has about a 90 percent survival rate. We didn’t want to be cavalier about, ‘Oh, she has cancer. It’s fine.’ We wanted to make sure we were depicting a type that this is most likely this child’s journey.”

“We picked a time in the process where she would be coming through it, so that we could still show that character but not scare away an audience that we really thought was an important audience to see this.”

By now, we hope you have binge watched Netflix’s Alexa & Katie at least three times and if you have, you’ve fallen in love with Katie’s younger brother, Jack.

JJJ caught up with Finn Carr who plays the character on the show and learned 10 Fun Facts about the young star that a lot of his fans don’t even know.

“Playing Jack on Alexa & Katie was the best experience of my life,” Finn told us. “I learned so much from my fellow cast members.”

Earlier today, JJJ shared a fun article with showrunner Heather Wordham speaking about what would happen in a possible season two for Netflix’s Alexa & Katie – and we are almost positive that it has been renewed!

This afternoon, one of the stars, Jack Griffo, shared a fun little video on his Instagram Stories which featured real life girlfriend and co-star Paris Berelc, Emery Kelly and Finn Carr.

The video showed Finn playing around with Jack‘s new dog, Dude.

While that isn’t a clear indicator at all – we mean, they could just be hanging out together, there’s more.

If you’re like us, you binge-watched Netflix’s new series Alexa & Katie so fast, you’re now emailing the streaming service twice a day asking about a season two.

While the show, starring Paris Berelc and Isabel May, hasn’t been renewed just yet, showrunner Heather Wordham does have some ideas for the possible second season.

Speaking with IndieWire, she shared that the girls would still be the center of it all.

“The friendship between the girls, I think what we want to do is just make sure we’re still telling those stories, that we’re paying attention to that relationship and showing that support they have for each other,” she shared.

“Also, now that we know the whole family, it will be fun, hopefully, to get to do those stories and include everybody,” Heather adds. “The older brother [Emery Kelly] will be a senior, so him trying to figure out what he’s doing with his life and that kind of thing.”

Season two could also center more on Alexa and the issues beyond her cancer: “There are so many other issues that teens are dealing with.”

“As she gets better, what does that mean? Some of these adults I talked to who had cancer as kids said that after they got better, they had this feeling of isolation. Because they didn’t look sick anymore, nobody treated them that way, so their worry was just internal. It’s a hard thing to show, but it was such an interesting insight.”

Paris recently chatted with Justine magazine about acting with Jack for the series.

“Me and him always said that Alexa and his character, Dylan, they’re like the 14 and 16-year-old version of us,” Paris says.

“It’s cool to go back into that headspace of ‘I’m 14 and this is a new crush and I don’t have the adult thoughts that I have now.’”

She adds, “But because I am so comfortable with him, we would be on set and they would be like, ‘alright, you have to be not so comfortable with him’…I had never done anything like that before and Jack made it really fun for me.”

If you were like us last night, you went ahead and binge-watched Netflix’s new series Alexa & Katie and the one thing you might have noticed is that Paris Berelc not only stars in the series, but actually sings the theme song!

The 19-year-old actress spoke exclusively to JJJ about getting in the booth to record the song and spoiler, she was actually really nervous about it.

“It was very nerve wracking, for sure. I don’t sing and when I do sing, it’s in the shower or at church,” Paris tells us.

She continues, “When they asked me to do that, I was really scared. Now, just hearing it at the beginning of every episode, it’s an ‘Oh my god’ moment. ‘That’s my voice, and I’m actually singing that. It’s crazy’.”

Paris adds, “It’s really cool though. It’s one of those things that are very surreal and there’s no words on how to describe it.”

So, can you expect more songs from Paris after this? Probably not. While she does love singing, it’s not her goal.

“I’m an actor who can sing, but I don’t call myself a singer. I like it, it’s just acting is my main passion,” she says.
