Katherine McNamara & Alisha Wainwright Are Proud of 'Shadowhunters' Repping Strong Female Leads

Katherine McNamara & Alisha Wainwright Are Proud of 'Shadowhunters' Repping Strong Female Leads

Katherine McNamara and Alisha Wainwright play two of the strongest female characters on television right now on Shadowhunters.

The two actresses opened up about how the show is representing strong and not-afraid-of-anything female roles.

“For me, having a lot of young black women coming up to me and vocalizing seeing a dynamic black woman who’s not playing a secondary character to a male was actually something that they very much enjoy and are looking for on television today,” Alisha told Syfy during the recent NYCC.

She adds, “To have that in genre too is so fun and important and I didn’t realize I was carrying that torch until they made me aware of how important it was to them. That gives me the feels for sure.”

Alisha Wainwright Dishes on Maia & Simon's Relationship in 'Shadowhunters' Season 3

When we last left Maia and Simon at the end of season two of Shadowhunters, he had left her to go see the Seelie Queen, which we all know is not good.

Alisha Wainwright opened up about the couple’s new relationship and what they’ll be going through when the series returns in April.

“I think what we will find is that Simon did some dealings behind her back,” Alisha shared. “Not only what does that say for Simon, but what does that say for their relationship and trust?”

She adds, “I think you’ll really enjoy seeing how Simon and Maia work through problems and problem solve together as a team.”

Shadowhunters is set to return in April on Freeform.

She added, “Izzy being powerful, it will be nice to see her really break and fall down and I hope the fans really appreciate it. It’s been hard work, it’s been hard and I hope they like what we’ve done.”
