Amber Riley will soon be playing one of the roles that she was without a doubt born to play – Effie in Dreamgirls!
The 29-year-old actress will perform in a production set to his London’s West End at the end of the year, according to the Daily Mail.
Effie is the role that won Jennifer Hudson an Oscar in 2007 and Jennifer Holliday a Tony Award in 1982. It’s a role that Amber knows well as she performed two of the character’s songs on Glee. Watch below!
Dreamgirls will start performances in November 2016 and it will be directed by Casey Nicholaw, who has helmed the Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon, Aladdin, and Something Rotten. Amber Riley will be joining the cast of The Wiz Live! on NBC!
The 29-year-old Glee star will be taking on the role of Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North. Orange is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba also joined the cast as Glinda.
“We look forward to showcasing the amazing musical talents of Amber, and we are eager to introduce Uzo’s remarkable singing voice for those who know her solely as an extraordinary dramatic actress,” Wiz executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said in a statement to Essence, who broke the news.
The 29-year-old actress and Season 17 winner brought her new friend John Silverman to the Los Angeles taping.
“Remember my kind friend that I met on the plane that took care of me when I was sick? I brought him to Dancing With the Stars with me today!!! #paybackcanbegoodtoo #grateful,” Amber captioned with a cute photo of the two at the show.
Just a few weeks prior, John was seated next to Amber and instead of ignoring her, helped her out when she became ill on the flight.
“I got really sick on the plane today. But God sat me right next to an angel. He pretty much held my hand and nursed me through the whole flight and even carried my bags to baggage claim. I felt so much better when we landed I had to take an ussie. He taught me a valuable lesson about always being kind to strangers because he had no clue ‘who I was’ and didn’t find out until later,” Amber wrote of her meeting with John on Instagram. “It didn’t matter. He could have just ignored me and pretended I wasn’t there but he didn’t, he cared and offered comfort and anti-nausea medicine lol thank you for being my hero John Silverman. I made a new friend! (Terrible pic of me but that smile was genuine, I’m thankful).”
