Joshua Rush Shuts Down Twitter Troll Who Said Disney Channel Set a 'Poor Example' Having a Gay Character on 'Andi Mack'

Joshua Rush very politely shut down a Twitter user, causing them to delete their tweet.

The 17-year-old Andi Mack star retweeted and responded to a tweet that said Disney set a poor example by making his character on the show, Cyrus, gay.

“I am very disappointed in the way this show has been directed there are some very good messages through this show for it’s young audience, but introducing gays is a very poor example to the young adults watching this show. Poor Choice Disney,” the tweet read.

Joshua responded politely, supporting the choice and the LGBTQ+ fans that could be watching.

“I’m sorry you feel that way. Here’s the thing though: gay kids are gonna exist no matter whether you like it or not,” he wrote. “And we need to support and love all kids in every way we can. So when someone realizes they are gay, I want them to identify with something so they’re not alone.”

After he shared the tweet and his response, the user deleted their tweet. But thanks to the internet, it’s still around.

“the internet is forever, you can’t delete a tweet and expect it to be gone lol,” Joshua added with a screenshot of the original tweet.

Joshua Rush Opens Up About Cyrus Telling Jonah He's Gay on 'Andi Mack'

Joshua Rush Opens Up About Cyrus Telling Jonah He's Gay on 'Andi Mack'

Andi Mack made more history on last week’s episode and Joshua Rush is opening up about it.

If you missed it, Cyrus officially came out as gay to Asher Angel‘s Jonah Beck during his grandmother’s shiva. It was just another profound moment on the groundbreaking series.

Joshua spoke to GMA about the moment and making television history with Cyrus.

“Taking on the role of Cyrus has been one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in my life,” Josh shared. “Being Jewish, being 14, going to middle school, having this small, close-knit group of friends, and being gay are all just parts of his personality.”

He added that since the episode aired, the reactions have just been “overwhelmingly positive.”

“Over the last few days I’ve really gotten to see the myriad of ways that both this new coming-out scene for Cyrus, and this Jewish representation of his family, has affected the fans.”

He continues, “Cyrus has taught me a lot about being comfortable with myself no matter what others think.”

“I was bullied a lot at Cyrus’ age, so it’s inspiring to see how Cyrus knows he doesn’t have it all figured out yet, but he isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions about who he might be and what that means for him.”

Andi Mack airs Fridays on Disney Channel.
